Member Playing Groups at Omaha Beach Golf Club

As Omaha Beach Golf Club continues to grow, we are seeing more and more new faces around the Club, which is fantastic.

We also want to make sure all members know how to get involved, meet other golfers, and make the most of their membership.

A number of our regular playing groups have helped build the social side of the Club over many years, and they are always open to more members getting involved. Whether you are new to Omaha, have been a member for years, or simply want to meet a few more people to play with, there are plenty of options available.

Trying a new group is a great way to mix up your usual routine, enjoy the course with different members, and become more connected around the Club.

Early Morning Hackers

The Early Morning Hackers are a social roll-up group that play on Monday and Wednesday mornings, usually from around 8:00am.

Members can come into the Golf Shop, print a card, and be shuffled into a group with others. It is a great way to meet people without needing to organise a full four yourself.

The men play from the blue tees, and all ages are welcome. Young, old, or somewhere in the middle, it does not matter. The main requirements are that you play at a good pace, enjoy the game, and are happy to stick around for a coffee or beer afterwards.

There is a small prize-giving after the round.

Entry is $10 cash.

9 Hole Vets

The 9 Hole Vets play on Monday and Wednesday mornings, starting around 8:30am.

This is a very social group made up of some of the older ladies and gentlemen of the Club. They play 9 holes, keep it casual, have a few prizes, and enjoy a good yarn afterwards.

The group is now regularly attracting a little over 20 players, which is great to see.

Entry is $5. Members can book in online, with groups made up on the morning.

9 Hole Ladies

The 9 Hole Ladies have several playing options available during the week:

Monday at 9:30am on the Quarry side
Tuesday at 8:30am on the Estuary side
Thursday at 9:30am on the Estuary side

All ladies are welcome to get involved. The format is usually 9 holes stableford, with a relaxed and friendly feel.

This is a great option for ladies getting into golf, returning to golf, or simply wanting a more casual 9-hole game while meeting others around the Club.

The group also runs a few themed events during the year, so there is always a bit of variety.

WAPPS

WAPPS is played on Wednesdays at 11:00am.

This is a long-standing men’s group with plenty of history at the Club. The teams are shuffled the day before, making it another great way to meet different members rather than playing with the same group each week.

Members can put their name on the sheet or book into the WAPPS time to get started.

The format is social stableford, followed by a few beers and stories after the round. You must be able to have a laugh, and if you can handle a bit of banter, you will fit in just fine.

Entry is $5.

WAPPS has had many regular players over the years, and the group is keen to see more men getting involved and helping bring it back to its full glory.

18 Hole Ladies

The 18 Hole Ladies play on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from around 8:45am.

There is a $5 haggle entry, and while there is a little more competition, it is still a very enjoyable and welcoming group.

We would love to see more of our ladies getting involved. It is a great way to play regular 18-hole competition golf, meet others, and enjoy a mini prize-giving after the round.

There is also a rolling ladies morning from 9:00am on Thursdays. This is more social, with no competition, and is a good chance for a casual game or a bit of practice. All ages and stages are welcome.

Saturday Men’s Haggle

The Saturday men’s haggle is the big one.

If you want to meet more of the male members at the Club, this is one of the best ways to do it. Put your name down and you will be mixed into the haggle.

There is a wide range of players involved, from young North Harbour reps firing low scores through to the old boys off 12 handicaps who somehow always seem to win everyone’s money.

Members can play earlier or after the 9:30am shotgun and still enter the haggle with their own group, but the main shuffle is a great way to meet more people and get involved.

Win here, and you can win anywhere.

Make the Most of Your Membership

There are plenty of golf options available at Omaha Beach Golf Club, and we want all members to feel comfortable getting involved.

The groups that helped build the Club are still going strong, and with membership continuing to grow, we want to make sure everyone knows these opportunities are open to them.

Whether you are looking for competition golf, social golf, 9 holes, 18 holes, or simply a way to meet more members, there is a group here for you.

If you have any questions about playing groups, competitions, bookings, rules, or how to get started, please speak with the Golf Shop or email golfshop@omahagolf.co.nz.

We want to help you get on course, meet people, and make the most of your membership.
